Event #8 $300 RE: Alough Not Allowed

Shout Outs

* Meikat "May" Siu (Manhattan, NY) is the unofficial chip leader with 155k. She's hoping Matt Damon's following the blog and gets this shout out.

* While she's not a big stack, Lisa Raimone (Bardonia, NY) has been an entertaining player who's looking to send her love to Tony and the boys. "Tell them I'm hanging by a thread and looking for a double-up."

Message delivered.

39 players remain as we close in on the the bubble with 27 players cashing.

Event #8 $300 RE: Blinds Up

Blinds are 1,500 / 3,000 with a 400 ante. We're still a few spots from the money.

Event #8 $300 RE: Thirty-Four

There are 34 players remaining in Event #8 on four tables. Mike Linster has 150,000 and tells us he just took two big hits. In the first one, his 10-10 lost to A 7 after a flush hit. In the second, he doubled up a guy with A-J versus the short stack's 10-10, and a J-7-2-10-x board.

The money starts at 27.

Over the Hill

William Hill continues to post stellar results at Borgata. His run in
Event #6 fell just short of a Final Table when he shoved his last 83,000 from under the gun. Everyone folded to the small blind who announced a raise because "he didn't know another player was all-in." This forced the confused player to call with K2 offsuit, Hill showed pocket 55's, but a King right out the window ended the young pros' day in 16th place.

Event #8 $300 RE: Call the Clock

A clock is called at one table and a player with a decision to make ultimately folds. "Can we call the clock on the Borgata Babes?" says another player at the table, waving around his lonely $1 tip.

Event #8 $300 RE: Level Up

We're at Level 13, with 1,200 / 2,400 blinds and a 300 ante.

Event #7 $350 O8: Adam Brancato Eliminated in 5th ($4,481)

Adam Brancato

On a turn of 9 3 6 J, Adam Brancato raises with only 2,000 behind, and Ryan Miller just calls. The river is K.

Adam: A Q 5 7
Ryan: 6 5 4 2

Adam has only 2,000 left.

Two hands later, he goes all in from the big blind and Robert Craig Thomas-Meyer calls:

Adam: 4 4 9 3
Robert: 9 10 2 A

Board: 8 8 6 3 3

Robert gets a quarter of the pot and gains 1,000. "I play Omaha good!" he quips.

The very next hand, he's all in from the small blind.

Adam: A Q 8 4
Robert: 2 9 3 J

Board: 5 6 10 8 7

Adam is busted. Four players remain, and they just did a quick colorup.

Peter: 3 4 A 6

The turn and river are 10 Qand Peter is eliminated. "I'm next," Erik Stegall mutters from the next-shortest stack.

Event #7 $350 O8: And We're Back

The final seven in Event #7 are back to pare down the field a bit. Stay tuned!

Event #7 $350 O8: Gordon Lamb Eliminated in 8th ($2,241)

Gordon Lamb

Gordon Lamb goes all in for the last of his small stack. Gilbert Sacks and Ryan Miller call and check down a board of 2 5 7 A 9.

Gordon: A 2 9 9
Gilbert: 9 6 8 6
Ryan: Muck

Gilbert scoops and Gordon is eliminated. The remaining seven players are on a 15-minute break.

Event #7 $350 O8: Stephen Biggans Eliminated in 9th ($1,494)

Stephen Biggans

On a river of 9 7 5 J Q, William Hine bets and Stephen Biggans calls all in. Robert Craig Thomas-Meyer folds in disgust.

Stephen: A K 2 J
William: 10 2 9 8

William scoops and Stephen is eliminated.

Event #8, NL Re-entry: Safety Raft

Play is down to 10 tables as 98 players remain with an average stack of 26k in the $350 NL re-entry tournament.

An early position player at table 10 moves all-in for 8k, who gets protection from Josh Bruckner (Hicksville, NY) with a shove of 20k. Seat 9 tanks and eventually folds, only to pound the table when he sees 6 7 vs. Bruckner's Q J . The boards runs out to give Bruckner a full house and the pot.

"Wow," says seat 9, shaking his head. "What a good lay down," he jokes, knowing that folding helped him dodge a major bullet.

A suggested nickname for the play is "isolation boat," to which Bruckner replies, "I don't knows what it's called, but I'll think of something."

There aren't any major stacks, but a couple of players are approaching the 100k mark.

Level 7 (300/600/75 ante) winding down.

Event #7 $350 O8: Chip Counts

Here's where we stand on chip counts among our final nine. Ryan Miller, who began the day with the chip lead, has more than twice as many chips as his next closest competitor.

2. Gordon Lamb 130,000
3. Peter Festa 35,000
4. Gilbert Sacks 205,000

2. Gordon Lamb
3. Peter Festa

5. Adam Brancato
6. Stephen Biggans
7. Robert Craig Thomas-Meyer

Event #7 $350 O8: Table of 10, Check Please

Gloria Jean Turner, our last woman standing, just busted in 11th place with J A 3 A all in versus Gregory Disler's A 5 2 3 on a board of Q 10 3 7 5. We're now redrawing for one table of 10.

Event #9, Ladies NL Chip Counts

Kim DeMarre (Aston, PA) & Colleen Ingram (Lebanon Twp., NJ) are two of the bigger stacks with 40k+.

Level 7 (300/600/75 ante) is underway

Event #7 $350 O8: We're Back

The remaining 12 players in Event #7 are back from break and are starting the next level. They'll consolidate to one table at 10 players, which shouldn't take long at this rate.

Event #6 $1,000NL: Tasting the Money

There are now 53 players left in the $1,000 + $90 No Limit Hold'em Event #6. The money starts at 45!

Event #7 $350 O8: Break

The remaining 12 players in Event #7 are on a 15 minute break.

Event #7 $350 O8: Lucky Thirteen

There are 13 left in the Omaha-8 event. Gordon Lamb just scooped a nice pot from the short stack with A-J-10-Q on an 8 5 9 K 7 board. The opponent's low was counterfeited.

Event #7 #350 O8: Jay Centeno Busted

Jay Centeno, who we've mentioned in this blog several times, just busted from the $350 Event #7 at around 16th place. We asked him what happened. "Nothin' much," he said as he headed for the exit.

Event #9, Ladies NL: Early Returns

The Ladies field has 203 players and will pay a top prize of more than $15,000.

Players are back from break as Level 5 (150/300/25 ante) is underway.

Event #6 $1,000NL: DeMarco DeBusto

Michael Omelchuk, a familiar face around here, raises to 10,000 from early position. Ilya Dment makes it 35,000 and Michael DeMarco re-raises all in. Omelchuk folds and Dment calls.

Dment: 10 10
DeMarco Q 2

Board: 7 K 3 J5

Demarco is out around 60th place, short of the money, which starts at 45th place.

Event #8, NL Re-entry: Early Totals

There are 221 players in Event #8, with 40 of those re-entering, creating a prize pool of $78,300. Top prize will be in the neighborhood of $23,000.

Mike Linster (Levittown, NY), who finished 7th in the PLO, has a healthy stack of 58k.

Level 5 (150/300/25 ante) continues.

Event #7 $350 O8: That Was Fast

Unusually for a limit split game, we lost four players in the first half hour or so of action. We're now down to two tables of 18 players already.

Impending Distraction

In about 45 minutes, the highly anticipated Colts-Jets game comes on. The winner advances to the Super Bowl. This room is filled with a massive number of rabid Jets fans, and a small but vocal contingent of Colts fans. Expect a lot of looking up at the projection screens as the Colts stomp all over the Jets. That's right, you heard me.

Event #6 $1,000NL Update

Sixty-five players remain in the $1,000 + $90 No Limit Hold'em Event #6. They're playing all the way down to one tonight, so expect a late night!!

Event #9, Ladies NL: Girls Go Wild

Andora Does the Honors

There's no secret of what happened in the Ladies Event in September's Borgata Poker Open when a "man" won the tournament and received national attention in the process.

This year the women were prepared to face a few "men," as another handful enter the field, and there's a different vibe this time around. The center of the Event Center erupts with applause and cat calls when the first "man" is knocked out, with one woman shouting, "go ahead make the walk of shame."

Patti Adorna (Neptune City, NJ) does the honor when she turns the nut straight with Q 8 . "I didn't care what he had," she says, "I had the nuts." Adorna takes her opponent's last 7k when he turns over two pairs.

The women's field includes Olga Varkonyi (Great Neck, NY), wife of 2002 WSOP Champion Robert Varkonyi and 4th place finisher in the 2008 Ladies event at the Borgata Winter Open.

Also playing is Kim Findura (Butler, NJ) who won the Ladies event during the 2009 Borgata Summer Open.

"I'm back to defend my title," says the always smiling Findura, "I'm the real women's champion."

Findura, 2009 Borgata Summer Open Ladies Champion

Event #7, Omaha H/L: Update

An unfortunate oversight and correction has a new chip leader heading into Day 2 of the Omaha H/L tournament. Ryan Miller was inadvertently left off the list after finishing Saturday with 237,500 chips.

Revised Leader Board:

End of Day 1 Chip Count Leaders

1. RYAN MILLER 237,500
2. GEORGE CICAK (DOVER, NJ): 237,000
3. GORDON LAMB (ROCHESTER, NY): 125,500

22 players return for Day 2 at 2 pm.

Event #8, NL Re-entry: Guns Blazing

Lord Praises Re-entry

Most of the players who've taken advantage of the re-entry are true gamblers. "My goal was to double-up quick," says Kyle Lord (Philadelphia, PA), who's back at the table after his straight lost to a flush. "I knew I had a second chance, so I took a shot," adding, "now it's back to playing normal."

David King (Brooklyn, NY) had a similar strategy and also re-entered. "I made a bad decision, but knew if it was a bad decision I could come back," he says, adding that he'd never make the same play in a regular tournament.

Players who've taken advantage of the "double-up early" strategy is Gene Castro (New York, NY), who raises UTG with 2 3 and flops two pairs in a four way pot. "I told the table I'm playing every hand," he says. "This time it worked out," as he's doubled his starting stack to 20k.

Level 3 continues (75/150).

Event #9, Ladies NL

189 players are in the field as play moves on to Level 2 (50/100).

Event #8, NL Re-entry: Break

So far there's been 20 re-entries in the $300 NL event . Anyone sitting in the 10 seat is a marked player as all re-entries are seated in that position.

207 initial players (not including re-entry totals).

Players are on a 10 minute break, play resumes with Level 3 (75/150).

Event #9, Ladies NL: Ladies Night

A bevy of beauties are on the Event Center floor as the Ladies tournament is underway. The button starts in the three seat as the cards are in the air.

Event #8, NL Re-entry: Back & Forth

It's a relatively new concept and the players are taking advantage of the first re-entry event at a major Borgata Open event. Any player busting out in the first three levels can re-enter one time by buying in again.

It allows players to gamble it up with a second chance or to suffer a bad beat to take another shot. Borgata first tried re-entry events last fall with their double and triple plays.

So far play is tight, but a few eliminations have sent players back to the cage.

Event #6 & #7 Update

Event #6, the $1,000 No Limit, is down to 72 players. Event #7, the Omaha-8, is down to 30 - close to the money bubble at 27. Both events finish at 2 a.m.

Out in Front

Online tournament pro, Michael Wojcieszek (South Windsor, NJ), has emerged as the Chipleader in Event #6 - 1K NLHE.

As the money bubble draws near, big stacks continue to hammer away at the short stacks trying to bleed into the money.

Ship It

Borgata regular and tournament pro, Josh Brikis, continues his run good streak at Borgata.

"I shipped a pot with 8 high, then made a hero call with pocket 6's to chip back up," said the Pittsburgh native. Look for Brikis to chip up as play tightens on the money bubble in Event #6.
